Montana is calling. Guided Hunts and Fishing and the great Rocky Mountain Outdoors!
This hunt is usually paired with an archery elk hunt.
Although it’s not peak rut season you will see Mule deer up in the high country and whitetail in the low country. Mule deer population has been increasing the last few years and more and more nice mature bucks are being harvest each year. Whitetail numbes have been maintaining healthy numbers and aren’t uncommon to see downtown!
This is a difficult hunt and not for the average hunter, plan on primarily spot and stalk as well as tree stand hunts at wallows.
Montana is one of only a select few states where you can hunt 2 species with one tag. Mule deer buck or whitetail buck. Mule bucks tend to hang up high and whitetails down low.
The mule deer rut kicks off usually around early November. You’ll get an opportunity to see those lip curling heavy horned mountain muleys people talk about. Between their mass, chocolate horns, and forks they are known on these big bodied animals. These hunts are a lot of fun and you get to see lots of different deer. If up high isn’t your thing you could stay in the flats and see nice whitetail buck. They rut usually the last couple weeks of November. They are chasing does with one thing on their mind. During this time you see more bucks, and more quality bucks. You can rattle them in, grunt them in, or just spot with your optic any deer, and typically during this peak time, there will be a buck with it. We have great numbers of both species right now and would be a great time to harvest one of these magnificent creatures.
